Feldenkrais - a somatic approach to learning and healing
“Learning becomes the greatest and, indeed, the unique feature distinguishing man from the rest of the living universe.”
— Moshe Feldenkrais, Body and Mature Behavior, 1949
Most people find their way to this method because they are dealing with some type of pain in their body that has not been responding to other treatments. This was true for me as well; however, treating chronic pain and posture issues is really only the tip of the iceberg. The Feldenkrais Method is largely about breaking up habits, many of which originated as protective mechanisms. It is also about building new neural pathways which can establish links to muscles that have lost connection through mechanisms like stroke or disassociation.
I am not a Feldenkrais practitioner. I apply the principals of his writing and work in my teaching. For further information visit www.feldenkrais.com.
